PALETTE OF SUMMERY SHADES TO ENHANCE
YOUR GOLDEN GLOW
The warmth and radiance of the summer
sun—we all know
that it makes us feel
better—and dare I say,
look
better,
too.
But like all good things, the sun is best
enjoyed in
moderation, as overexposing
ourselves
can
lead to painful,
lasting and dangerous consequences. When it comes to
getting gorgeous this summer,
it's best to fake it—fake a tan, that is. Once you've perfected your own faux glow (click
here to read about
how to keep your skin shining all summer long), use this essential
summer guide to enhancing your golden
summer look.
| Face Bronzers |
| To matte or to shimmer?—that is the question I most often hear when it comes to bronzers. Here’s the difference: a matte bronzer is designed to look like a real tan and should not look like makeup (use it when you need to deepen the color of your face and/or neck so you are one color from tip to toe) and a shimmering bronzer is meant to be seen as makeup (use it in the place of blush and/or highlighter during the summer months). |
| Try these: |

Skin Alison Raffaele Mineral Powder Foundation, a matte loose powder, oil-free in skintones 4 (lightest) to 7 (deepest). ($29.50, www.alisonraffaele.com) |

Becca Brazilian Bronzing Sheen, shimmering bronze cream compact. ($26.00, www.makeup.com) |
| Eyes |
| Eye makeup with a tan can be tricky—what looks like a beautiful neutral color on pale, winter skin can suddenly turn muddy against a summer tan. Copper-pinks flatter all shades of tan skin, as do tints of blue and green. The trick here is to keep your shadows sheer and uncomplicated—just a hit of color on the eyelid and a bit of mascara on curled lashes. If you need something a bit bolder a defined, try an olive shadow—it will look as neutral as a brown, but without appearing flat. |
| Try these: |
| |
Skin Alison Raffaele Light Shadow in Daybreak, a copper-pink cream, and Soft Shadow in Fireshine, a copper-pink powder, and Oliveshine, agolden olive powder. (Respectively, $16,$19.50 and $19.50, www.alisonraffaele.com) |

| Cheeks |
| To mimic the flush of the summer’s heat, ditch the neutrals once again and think bright corals, pinks, and reds. Remember, bronzers are used to deepen; blushes are used to brighten. Big difference! |
