| My sister is having a baby and I want to buy her a special push gift. What's out there that's fun and unique but not too expensive?—Jen, Bloomfield, OH |
How nice of you! Push gifts are the way to go. Moms-to-be get everything they need for their baby at their baby shower, but still deserve a little somethin' somethin' for themselves. Fabulous but comfy post-delivery wear is a great idea (think: Juicy sweats or loose drawstring pants paired with a cute top). Really, who wants to wear the same old clothes you've been wearing for the past nine or so months? Unbuttoned Maternity (www.unbuttonedmaternity.com) has some cute lounge wear, made specially for the fourth trimester. A spa day, complete with your baby sitting services, is also a relished gift, as is a gift certificate to a nice dinner for her and her man. Just be sure to make the reservation for her in an effort to force her to get up and go and to show up one or even two hours before the dinner to give Mom some time to get ready like a human being (read: without having to hold the baby while she brushes her teeth).I also quite like the Rocks To Buy Baby line from Ajaron Designs (www.ajaron.com). Clean, modern, chic and affordable, the line features earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings that marry sentimentality with style. I especially like the “It's a Boy” and “It's a Girl” Enamel Rings ($149 each) and the Pacifier Necklace ($99). You can add additional pacifiers to symbolize each new child or make a tender yet cool statement by donning just one solo ornament. Whatever you choose, I'm sure your sister will be wholly appreciative of your consideration for her. A little token of your affection will go a long way, especially during those first sleep-deprived six or so weeks. |
| I've been researching baby bottles that don't have BPA. Do you like the ones from BornFree?—Linda, Peachtree City, GA | |

I do and, actually, I have chosen to use them for my newborn. For those of you who don't know, many plastic bottles contain BPA (bisphenol A), a chemical that has been linked in tests to certain cancers, hinders fertility and can even contribute to childhood behavioral problems. The chemical is usually released when the contents of the bottle are acidic, high in fat or heated. Yuck! |
| I need undies and cute sleepwear. I won't do the ugly pregnancy stuff they sell in the mall. What's good?—Courtney, Cincinnati OH | ||
| There are so many options for hot moms-to-be when it comes to pretty little under things. You're not resigned to the frumpy and dumpy bras, panties and sleepwear of yesteryear. With child or without, I love Hanky Panky's stretch lace thongs ($18, www.bellydancematernity.com); they're super comfortable and very sexy. If you really want to go there, then check out the maternity line from Agent Provocateur (www.agentprovacateur.com)—it's hot! And as far as nighties go, the Esme Maternity Tank Gown ($58, www.blossommaternity.com) will last you through your entire pregnancy while maintaining your sense of womanhood.
