| I need a cool pair of maternity jeans that sit below the belly. I can’t seem to find any that are as good looking as my regular jeans but don’t have a huge panel (I hate those things!).—Mikayla, St. Helena, CA | ||

When I was pregnant, I lived in J Brand’s Mama J maternity jeans, a relatively new addition to their cult-favorite line, and the sexy maternity jeans from Serfontaine. Both brands offer comfortable, below-the-belly styles in styles nearly identical to their non-maternity varieties. I especially liked rocking the ones in the dark washes (I found them a little more slimming than the lighter-shaded varieties), but for spring, light and white denim is ultra-hot. You can purchase J Brand’s maternity jeans for $210 at www.jbrandjeans.com and Serfontaine’s for $130 to $190 at www.bellydancematernity.com. Now, go rock on with your big-bellied, bad self! | ![]() |
| Caring for my three kids leaves virtually no time for manicures. Are there any quick solutions for making my nails look nice without getting them done regularly? — Karenna, Commack, NY | ||
| Keeping you nails neat and groomed is certainly facilitated by getting regular manicures, but that’s usually a luxury you have to live without if you’re a busy mom. Fear not, though —there are things you can do to keep your hands looking pretty without making frequent trips to your neighborhood nail joint. Make keeping your cuticles hydrated a top priority, as doing so will prevent them from becoming dry and ragged, thus eliminating the temptation to pick at or bite them. As a first step, I advise keep small bottles of hand cream in your car, purse, diaper bag and on your bedside table. Apply it frequently, especially after you wash your hands. A great one to try: Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Hand Cream, which will last and last, keeping your hands soft—but not greasy—for hours ($4.76, www.drugstore.com). Before you go to bed each night, I also suggest applying a cuticle cream to each cuticle. I keep a tub of my favorite, Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream ($6.19, www.drugstore.com), on my bedside table to remind myself, and it really only takes a few seconds to apply. Of course, don’t forget to focus on your actual nails. Even though you’re forgoing regular polishing, keeping them looking pretty isn’t tough. The solution: regular shaping and buffing, which yields a glossy, healthy shine. I recommend using Tweezerman’s SPA Buffer and File, which will tackle both tasks beautifully ($1.99, www.drugstore.com). Voilà! Pretty hands, all on your own. | ||

| I’m breastfeeding, but am not a huge fan of whipping my boob out when I’m out in public (even though I know it’s natural and I shouldn’t feel embarrassed!). I usually just throw my baby’s blanket over my chest to cover myself us, but I can’t help but think there’s a more stylish way to discreetly breastfeed. —Olivia, Washington, DC | ||

Olivia, you’re not alone. Even though breastfeeding’s been around as long as humans have, most moms feel apprehensive about nursing in public. The chicest solution I’ve ever seen for your dilemma is Bebe au Lait’s nursing covers. Made of beautiful fabrics chosen with chic moms in mind, they not only fully cover you, baby and your breasts, but also feature an all-important rigid neckline that allows you to see baby (and vice versa) as you nurse, preventing baby from feeling completely shrouded. The company recently added coordinating burp cloths to its line of products, helping you feed even more stylishly. The nursing covers are $35, and the burp cloths are $16 for a set of two. To purchase, visit www.bebeaulait.com. |
