THE MOTHER NATURE
THE FAMILY GROOVE'S PROFILE OF A MOM WHO'S MAKING IT HAPPEN
Gone are the days of the traditional coffee clutch because at THE FAMILY GROOVE we're doing it new school,
bringing people together to laugh, learn, share and commiserate in the global village called the Internet.
This month we want you to meet Eve Feinberg. As an OB/GYN with a specialty in Reproductive Endocrinology
and Infertility, Feinberg is on the forefront of the brave new world of baby making. This award-winning doctor
brings her unique brand of cutting edge knowledge, compassion and humanity to her patients during what is
usually a very emotional time in their lives. And the privilege of helping infertile couples conceive brings
Feinberg a happiness and satisfaction rivaled only by her love of being a mom herself.
Here Feinberg talks about her life as mom, her gratitude for her husband and why taking care of yourself should be on the top of everyone's to-do list.
1. Who are you?
Eve Feinberg
2. How old are you?
33
3. Where do you live?
Highland Park, Illinois
4. How many children do you have? How old?
I have an adorable two-year-old daughter named Mia.
5. What time do you get up?
The time I get up depends on the day—but anywhere between 4:30 and 7AM.
6. What daily rituals must you do to feel normal?
Shower. I cannot live without my morning shower. Starbucks is nice too, though that doesn’t always happen.
7. What do you wish you'd do everyday, but haven't been able to incorporate into your routine?
Exercise. I would love to work out more—or at least consistently. It’s a big struggle.
8. Do you work?
Yes, I work full time.
9. What do you do?
I am a physician. My specialty is Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
10. Tell us about it.
Aside from being a mom, it’s the greatest privilege on earth. I help infertile couples conceive through medical treatments, surgery or in-vitro fertilization. I work with really amazing people every day.
11. What's the best thing your mother ever told you?
The best thing my mother ever told me was: take really good care of yourself, because if you don’t, no one else will.
12. What does being a good mother mean?
Being a good mother means loving your child more than anything else in the entire world.
13. What's your mantra/personal philosophy?
My personal philosophy is to have definite long-term goals, but take things one step at a time. When life is overwhelming, break it into smaller pieces. If you can’t handle thinking about the week, then focus on today. If you can’t focus on the whole day, then focus on the current hour and the current task.
14. What do you tell other mothers?
You never fully know what others are going through or where they are coming from. Accept and don’t judge.
15. Finish this sentence: I want my children to know…
...that every day I try to be the best mom that I can be.
16. Who inspires you?
During my fellowship at The National Institutes of Health, I worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The soldiers that returned from Iraq missing limbs but full of spirit were truly inspiring.
17. What are you passionate about?
Travel. I love to travel off the beaten path and find amazing, unexpected places. One of the best trips I ever took was a group cycling trip through Europe. We spent very little time in the big cities and most of our time in small towns. I learned so much about these countries, but in the end, so much about myself.
18. How do you balance your life as a woman, a mother, a friend?
I have a great husband who is an equal partner, in every sense of the word. He is my rock. He is a wonderful father to our daughter and we have great times together. He allows me to completely focus on work when need be. He gives me space and freedom and encourages me to take some time out on the weekends or weeknights for myself or to go out with my girlfriends.
19. What do you wish you knew then that you know now?
I should have gotten my epidural a lot sooner.
20. How do you get your groove on?
I go to the gym and have an intense workout, and then I get my nails done.
