Freya We just joined a beach club and I am nervous about keeping my three-year-old protected from the sun all day long. Can you recommend an easy way to make sure he's shielded that won't get in the way of him enjoying the beach?—Melissa, Middletown, NJ

For an easy way, I suggest leaving Junior at home with a sitter—just kidding!  There are no truly easy ways to make sure your kiddie will be protected from the sun (barring keeping him out of it), but I can recommend some great products that will save his skin and your sanity.

Itsy bitsy teenie weenie bathing suits are cute, but not ideal for a long day at the beach. Shield your little one in a 50+ UPF (Ultra Violet Protection Factor) swimsuit that blocks over 98% of UV rays. Made from a special sun-protective fabric that is woven with out the use of chemicals, these suits by Sun Busters are adorable and keep kids cool (even though they don't look like they would). (On boy: $36, Sun Busters' Long Sleeve Rash Shirt; $30.95, Sun Busters' Board Shorts. On girl: $40.95, Sun Busters Short Sleeve All-in-One Swimsuit; $22.95, Bucket Hat. All available at www.darimikidz.com)

Now that he's all suited up, it's slather time. I love Aubrey Organics' Natural Sun SPF 25 Green Tea Protective Sunscreen ($8.50, www.aubreyorganics.com). It shields sensitive skin (yes, you can use it, too) with all-natural ingredients and prevents damage from cancer-causing free radicals with an anti-oxident rich organic Matcha green tea. It also keeps skin soft and well-hydrated thanks to its luxe jojoba and shea butters.

For hats, I like what Sun Busters has to offer and I also like the Baby Banz gear (www.babybanz.com). For just $25, you can get a hat and sunglasses combo. The glasses have 100% UV protective lenses and a unique wrap around design, so he can rough-and-tumble about—and you can finally enjoy a sip of that frozen margarita!

Apple Girl

My nutritionist has suggested I start taking fiber supplements and I've been hearing a lot about it in the news lately. What's the deal with fiber?—Jeanine, Chattsworth, CA

As a culture, we Americans are all fiber-deprived—hence colon cancer, IBS, high cholesterol and diabetes. Since a healthy person is a healthy GI tract, upping your fiber sounds like good idea to me. Apples with the skin are high in fiber; berries are a good source, too. As far as vegetables, the usual suspects apply: broccoli, spinach, green peas and other dark leafy greens will do the trick. Go for brown rice over white and whole grain breads (always go for whole grain breads—white ones are tantamount to cotton candy). You might want to supplement with some flaxseeds, either in seed or oil form. Psyllium seed husks will also boost your day's fiber count. You can add it to a smoothie or stir it into some water (not for the faint of palette).
