FOR THE CHILDREN
THE VALERIE FUND GIVES FAMILIES IN THE GREATER NEW JERSEY AREA A REASON
TO BE THANKFUL
Supporters from across the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania areas united at the 15th Annual Thanksgiving Ball
Gala to champion and celebrate The Valerie Fund, an organization that assists children with cancer and blood disorders.
This year's Valerie Fund honorees, Justin Festa, J.C. Uva and Ellen Warner, shared their stories of strength and survival
thanks to the support of The Valerie Fund. Justin Festa was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney when he was just 22
months old. After 18 months of treatment at The Valerie Fund, Justin was cancer free. J.C. Uva was 17 years old when
he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. J.C.'s treatment included a tumor removal surgery, four months of chemotherapy and lymph node dissection surgery. JC is now cancer free, too. Ellen Warner was 22 years old when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She was treated with radiation and had to endure several spinal taps in order to get chemotherapy. Now at the age of 49, Ellen has been cancer free for 25 years. The Valerie Fund played an integral part in the healing of each of these honorees and so many other children and families who strive to beat this disease.
The Valerie Fund, one of the largest networks of its kind in the country, cares for over 5,000 children a year with cancer or blood disorders. With eight Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders located throughout New Jersey and the greater New York and Philadelphia Metropolitan areas, The Valerie Fund provides families comprehensive health care services, including the help of counselors, psychologists, social workers and child-life specialists, in addition to physicians and nurses, without having to travel too far or to a variety of locations.
