TIE A PINK RIBBON
THE SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION NORTH JERSEY AFFILIATE CELEBRATES
A DECADE OF PROMISES KEPT
Ten years ago, Jackie Bertolini lost her mother to breast cancer. Deborah Q. Belfatto, co-founder and executive director
of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation North Jersey Affiliate made a promise to Jackie to do everything in her
power to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. So it was fitting that this year's Pink Tie Ball, named
Jackie Bertolini as its honorary chairperson.
Over 1,400 supporters made it to the star-studded event on November 4, 2006. The night hit a big note when breast
cancer survivors were invited onto the dance floor for a rousing and truly meaningful performance of Gloria Gaynor's
Grammy Award-winning song, “I Will Survive.” Not to be outdone, the exciting live auction hawked exquisite items and priceless experiences, including a 2006 Mini Cooper S, graciously donated by Open Road Auto Group, and a chance to attend the 2007 Oscar de la Renta fall fashion show plus a personal consultation with Oscar de la Renta himself. The night was topped off with a so-excited-they-just-couldn't-hide-it performance by the legendary Pointer Sisters. Yes, the night
was definitely something to jump for and attendees relished every minute of it.
The Susan G. Komen North Jersey Affiliate has awarded almost $7.4 million to organizations that provide screening, treatment and education to those who are uninsured or underserved.
